First off, I live in Alabama, USA, and I found something I thought highly unlikely in a petstore the other day - I'm fairly sure it was a schimmel gerbil! I didn't even know that gene was over here in the States, and I certainly didn't expect to find it in a petstore. It was mid-molt, with orange hair on the head and white/cream fur with slightly darker/orangish points. Sounds like a schimmel, right?
I'm kind of wondering if those are rare here or not, because I thought that they were.

Wow that would be a rare sight here in the UK also. Shimmel is yet t be standardised in the UK shows. This is a picture of a shimmel - I cannt find one in mid moult though. www.gerbilsuk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/alschimmel.htmThey start off loking like honeys them moult out the orange and the points remain orange. A colourpint gerbil is still quite a rare sight in petshops let alne a shimmel Andrea

Whoa! Yeah, those pics looked like what I saw, only difference being it must've been nearly done molting with just a patch left on its head. Pretty cool! Kinda makes me want to go buy it.

Schimmels are becoming quite common in the Netherlands, because many breeders have that colour at this moment, but not in pet shops. There you see most of the times the most common colours! If I were you, I would buy it! ;D
