Yeeha! I did it! And all from my own stock! Here is the first, to my knowledge, siamese gerbil bred in BC, Canada--maybe even in Alberta too: I'm so happy....

Congratulations Sandy! That is wonderful. Where did you aquire the Cchm gene? The spotting looks like it will be very nice as well! I do know, however, that it isn't the first in Alberta. Mads Lund from Ponoka has been breeding Siamese for awhile, and I bred siamese, burmese, cp slate and lcp slate for about a year (I'm from Edmonton). Anyway, it is still quite an accomplishment! I think it's great to see more breeders of the colourpoints in the Western provinces. In case you are interested, there is a breeder in Saskatoon that breeds pretty much everything. www.geocities.com/gerbils_2003/ Siamese, burmese, deh, polar fox, schimmel, nutmeg, grey agouti, and the list goes on . Unfortunately, I really don't agree with her ethics (she breeds for pets *and* feeders). Since I'm moving to Saskatoon next year, I'm hoping to eventually help Crazycritter establish either the ee or schimmel line in Alberta, if she lets me .

Congratulations, Sandy. It must be very exciting to get a color new to your kennel. Is Siamese something you've been working toward?

Yes, well, when I started learning about gerbil colours I had a gerbil born that was a sapphire so I knew that I had the chm gene in my stock. I paired the agouti dad of that sapphire to a dove gerbil, and have now bred two siblings together from that pairing. One sibling is a pied agouti female who has proven she carries himalayan, and her mate is a black male who has now proven to carry chinchilla medium. This black male is very dark and has minimal white markings.

Crazycritter, I'm as interested as you are in what pups you will get! Best of luck! The little female seems to be getting dark ticking, so maybe she is a Lt. Cpt. Agouti, which is great too. I've never seen a Cpt. gerbil in the flesh before, never mind how a Cpt. pup would develop. I'm just so happy this gene has popped out like this so I can have something definite to work with instead of hopeful maybes. Now I can streamline a bit too, have maybe two or three lines of definite gene types instead of somewhat of a mishmash which is what I have now. Anyways, the mishmash seems to have worked. You can see the whole litter of ten pups on my newly updated web page: The Gerbil Corner www.geocities.com/cvaneysinga/gerbil.html

Hi Peter, welcome back from your holidays! I think this little one is a light colourpoint. The picture doesn't show it but her ticking has a brownish tinge, so I don't think she's a grey agouti. Also her mom has produced some dove and argente cream pups. Time will tell--if she has a siamese pup in the next couple of litters then I'll know for sure. She is lovely.
