I got two new gerbils the other day ;D Ivory is the white one, and Summer is the honey looking one. Both are about 8 weeks. When I first saw Ivory I thought she might be a black eyed white. But after looking closely she appears to have ticking on her back, as well as darkish ears. I thought Summer might be a dark eyed honey, but she has a lot of white, as well as blueish ears. Anyway, I wanted to know what colours they were I looked at the Gerbil Shows UK website, and came up with the possible solutions. Summer: - pied dark eyed honey, but aren't her ears too dark for that? - schimmel or spotted schimmel, but doesn't she have too much honey-colouring for that at her age? Ivory: - colourpoint nutmeg.. but too light? - polar fox..? - schimmel or spotted schimmel but she doesn't have any honey colouring, only, ticking? I suppose it will become more obvious as they get older Opinions?

Your Summer looks similar, but a little darker than my Tweek, who's what's known as a honey cream in the US, or in other words, a light spotted DEH, so I, too, think Summer's a spotted DEH. You can see that Tweek also has dark ears: tidytuftgerbils.smugmug.com/photos/6492209-M.jpg[/img]No guesses on Ivory, other than I don't think she's Schimmel. My Moose is an adult Schimmel--they don't have ticking and notice the dark tail: tidytuftgerbils.smugmug.com/photos/12764678-M.jpg[/img]A very pretty pair, no matter what their colors! Are they from the same litter? RW

They both look pretty young, so perhaps the ticking hasn't come in fully. In which case it looks to me like spotted dark eyed honey and spotted polar fox? You'll have to see if she gets ticking on her belly or not to see if she's a spotted cpt nutmeg. Both would be pretty light with ticking developing as they mature.
