I was hoping for some input on the best way to pair up my gerbils, for some beautiful colors. None of the parent's or pups have ever clicked, or had other problems. All are very friendly and eager to be held. I was able to introduce most immediately, placing Risk in Fate's tank the night I brought him home, and split-caging the other pairs for 3 and 5 days each, without a hitch.
Here's the pairs I have now and pups they've had so far (it's only everyone's first litter though, so possible hidden recessives haven't shown up yet):
Pair #1
Pair # 2
Pair #3
Pair #1:
Cirus(aa cbcb Ee Gg P- Sp) X Rhea(aa cbch EE G- PP)
Pups:
Burmese
Siamese
Spotted and Pied(some have slight varigated markings)
Pair #2:
Taffy(Aa Cch ee Gg Pp Sp) X Pepper(aa Cch Ee G-
Pups:
DEH
Nutmeg
Lt. DEH
Agouti
Black
DTW
Spotted and Pied. Peppers dad carried (aa chch EE Gg Pp), was going to breed him with Taffy, but turned out Taff was a boy, so I paired Pepper with him instead. If she carries Gg I should get some Silver Nutmeg, Gray Agouti, Polar Fox, and Slate pups to, even if in small percents.
Pair #3:
Risk(Aa Ccb Ee G- P- Sp) X Fate(aa CC EE gg Pp Sp)
Pups:
Agouti
Black
Mottled markings (Possibly I will get gg strains next litter)
I'm also getting a male apricot in a month (A- CC ee gg pp)!! I'm almost 100% sure that he carries AA.
I was thinking if I paired him with a spotted Burmese pup, they would have golden agouti carrying
Aa Ccb Ee Gg Pp
at least. If the burmese carries any recessives I'd have more to work with. Then those pups could be paired with I was considering 2 of them together would have 33 color possibillities, but then I'd be in breeding, and most of the pups would be golden agouti, and the other colors but in a much smaller percent. If paired wtih a Burmese they'd have equal numbers of burmese, black, CP agouti, and Agouti. ;D
Colors I'd like to have:
Most Fox Colors
CP Agouti
Gray Agouti
Mottled Burmese
(Some of Taffy and Peppers pups are bibless, hopefully one of those could have bibless selfs also, along with unique colors)
IF a pair can have burmese and siamese pups as well as other new colors, I could retire my CP pair (mom w/daughters, Dad w/sons), so I don't end up wtih to many gerbils. I'd like to avoid spliting up current pairs, but rather let parent's stay with offspring and not have them go through split-caging to a new mate.
None of these gerbils have been in-bred. I have lineage of breeding pairs back to great great grandparent's, so pups aren't in-bred for 6 generations at least. They're from several different states as well.
Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks!!
