Hi i'm new here hope i get to meet everyone! Anyway i just got 2 male gerbils today. I'm not sure on proper gerbil colours etc but maybe someone can help. Well one is agouti but the other is black with a tiny piece of white under the chin so i'm not sure what thats called cuz i was told there not plain black if they have white . The other thing is i thought gerbils where meant to be sold at 6 weeks of age? These are 4/5 weeks and TINY! they are doing fine though eating, drinking, playing and there friendly . Anyway just thought i'd let everyone know lol

Hi Matt! Welcome, and congratulations! ;D Black gerbils typically have the white on the chin and sometimes on their paws. You will have to show us some pictures of the other one which you think is an agouti. Have you picked out names yet?

Sorry i have just realised that i posted this in the wrong place i apologise lol. They are really small....and fast so they will be hard to take pictures of but i will try tommorow! Thanks for the info! I am pretty sure the other is agouti, it is the typical gerbil colour like this one: But a lot younger and i must say he doesn't have as much of a gold tint more grey than that one. Anyway like i said i'll try and get some pics soon. Does anyone here have tips on taming them?? They are very fast and will come and smell your hands but thats it so any help there would be great! Thanks ......

Since he is very young, his color could change as he gets older, so I'm not sure.

is he this colour without the white collar? This is grey agouti pied (pied being the white marking) they do come in solid. The other agouti you have shown is golden agouti. Andrea

he's probably an agouti...younger ones always look a tad grayer then then older agoutis. AS they get older, the ticking darkens and the golden gets richer.

Hey Mad,
Welcome to the forum. I am glad to see you found us. Being a gerbil owner is a great thing. They are such lovely little creatures.
On to your question. The picture you have shown is of an agouti. The other one you described is a black. I can hardly wait to see more pictures.
It is a great feeling when they trust you enough to pick them up.
