i recently bought my gerbil, tibbon, a friend. after being an only gerbil for who knows how long (he was alone at the pet store, too) i was really curious to see how tibb would react to the new guy. they ignored each other till i put them in the same tank with a mesh divider between them. the new gerbil (still unamed) just kept chewing on his toilet paper roll and ignored tibbon. but tibbon....sort of freaked out. he dug at the corner of the divider trying to get through...then he looked up at me...hopping and squeaking. (unfortunatly i don't speak gerbil...yet...) but i offered him my hand. he scurried up my arm and sat there staring down at the new guy...thumping like crazy on my sholder, and squeaking. (he had never thumped till then). i know that wasn't like a "oh look, a friend...i love him" reaction to the new gerbil...but i still thought it was cute....course, i think everything tibbon does is cute.

i recently bought my gerbil, tibbon, a friend. after being an only gerbil for who knows how long... Thumping!
Baby did that once at the vet, when Bror was going to have surgery. It started when the vet took Bror out of the cage to check his tummy. Baby was standing straight up, looking really chocked! (He was deadly cute, but he was really scared. He watched his brother get ripped out from his safe and cozy bed.. I can understand that Baby got scared.. ) Well, he was standing there looking scared like hell, he was noisy and thumped his right leg into the gound really fast! I dont think I have seen him do anything cuter than that, but he must have felt like nuts
He did something like that right after Bror died also... I got a christmas-calendar from my bf, tiny gifts every day, and they were hanging in a thread from the sealing. (A little bit of the thread was hanging down)
Baby was eating and building something gerbillish outside of the cage when he suddenly stopped, and began to thump with his backlegs and made noise at the same time.. Still cute, but this time I did not understand WHY he did it! We had to laugh when we understood that he had been scared of the thread hanging down and moving, he most likely thought it was a falcon or something ;D Everything was OK when we got rid of the thread

wat do u mean by "thumping"? Thumping occurs when something frightene them to warn the others. It is also a sign that I am ready to mate. But most of them is that they are frightened by something.

Mine thump when any one makes a sudden move or when the dogs come n the house. They all (8) run for cover and you hear at least 3 of them thumping. \
Many times they thump but you can not hear it if they are doing it on the bedding.

Now Baby is thumping everytime he gets scared of me or my bf moving our legs in bed. He starts to thump and squeek, and I have to get up and comfort him... Poor little night-working Baby, my cutiepie
