I live in a two story home. Downstairs I have my "rodent room" - I was upstairs last night watching a movie, playing with 2 of my gerbils Chevy & Jimmy (who I am trying to intro) while the bunnies ran around on the floor. Every once and a while the buns would come up to see what i was doing, pull on my pant legs and such. My dog was on the otherside of the 'gate' i have to keep her away from the bunnies while they are out. All of a sudden i feel someone or something run over my foot! The bunnies are relaxing in the middle of the room, I have both boy gerbils with me on my lap, and the dog is still sitting by the gate. So i look down and find Audi my pied black girl running across my living room floor. I was so confused. Where did she come from? I quicky put the boys into their split tank, look over the at dog who's still sitting and watching, and the bunnies who are still relaxing. When i put my hands out of the floor and ask Audi "how did you get here?" she hops up into my hand. I take her downstairs and find she has pushed a block of wood that was covering a hole in the lid of her tank (it's a fish tank lid, i'm kinda outta lids). she climbed all the way down off the big shelf (see picture), and decided to come UP the stairs, past the dog, around the bunnies to viset me. She could have gone ANYWHERE in my unfinished basement, but she chose up the stairs to where i was. Audi, you are a silly, but wonderful girl!

That is so sweet - if a little freaky!! At least she came straight to you rather than getting injured / lost! I always find it so adorable when Pepper is running around the room and decides to stop investigating just to come over to me and see what I'm up to It's not along the same (scary!!) lines your tale has though! Maybe gerbils do really get a bond with their owner? I hope my clans appreciate my company as much as I enjoy theirs

I think she just wanted to get back into her tank with her sister, and new if she found me it would be the fastes way back. I'm always surprised how smart these little guys really can be. You can't imagine how confused I was, who ever thought of a gerbil traveling up a flight of stairs to come see you LOL...

Aww, so cute!! When I was younger and had my first gerbils, I was quite bonded with them. I would take them everywhere, even camping in a tent in the backyard. I let Hewie run around in the yard with me and when I called her name she'd run back to me and sit by or on my foot so I could put her back or hold her... She was the best gerbil ever I've had lost ones run across my foot, I think they want to play "catch me if you can" or something, lol.. Like.. "lookie mom, here I am, now ya gotta find/catch me!".. Glad she came back!!

I would have her running in my backyard with me all the time, she would never go to far, and always come back and sit on my foot! What colour was hewie? Val was a black. See the large tank on the second shelf from the bottom? Well that is "the Lid", her tank is actually the same sized one but above on the third shelf.

What colour was hewie? Val was a black. I had a very tame black female called Jet (full name Jet-Propelled) Is it just me, but black gerbils will tend to bond VERY closely with thier 'mum' (human, male or female). My Jade was the same. I swear that they think that they are humans.
