Hello everyone. I wanted to introduce myself to you all. I am a nana to 9 grandchildren, one who lives with me.
About fourteen weeks ago, she was nagging me to let her have a gerbil and I had been sticking to NO... but she wore me down. She bought a cage with the hope I would finally give in to her ( she is 16 by the way ) and soon I had been worn down. Ten weeks ago, she dragged me to a friends house, who had baby gerbils, just five weeks old.
It wasnt only the granddaughter who fell in love with the little creatures, I did too.
The first thing that happened was that I refused to let her have just one... I didnt want it to be lonely. We came home with TWO.
After telling her mum she had them, my daughter persuaded her husband to let her have two herself. The grown ups will know how she did that...she cooked and served meals for M, she shopped, she cleaned and cut off.
He finally gave in after three days. She now has two gerbils of her own.
The two we have here, Snowball and Tinkerbell are lovely friendly creatures. They climb all over us, including inside of our clothing. Both babies eat seeds out of our hands.
A couple of weeks later, I saw the friend at the shopping centre ( mall ? )and she said she had another litter of pups to home. I went and had a looksee, and fell in love all over again. I now have four babies of my own, two grey and two tan coloured.
At the same time, my granddughter saw some babies, they were dwarf hampsters. She blackmailed me... lots of cups of tea, washing dishes and so on, until I said YES, she could have these new babies. Grrrh !! So now we have four dwarfs in the house too.
She has a cat too but this was at her boyfriends home until they split up and that cat came back. I have an allergy to cats, they make me sneeze and wheeze ( hence why homed at b/f house )
Grand daughter nicked MY craft box to use as a playbox... I put a perspex lid on it so the crittures cant jump out. WHY did she not tell me the babies could jump so blooming high ? The babies have a swing, slide, tubes, seesaw, handmade maze (toilet roll tubes stuck together with holes to make it interesting ) and small balls with a bell inside. They LOVE being in the playbox and have been known to sulk when its time to go back into their housing.
I tell them I wont be long when I have to go shopping, I say goodnight at bedtime, good morning when I get up each day. I talk and play with all the babies as much as she does. I give them cabbage leaf, sprouts, groundsel, apple and other fruits. All babies except one love a bit of strawberry fruit.
The cat sleeps on MY bed during the daytime and he is awake at night, poking ME in the ear to wake me up to play.
All in all, in our house there are six gerbils, four dwarf hampsters and one kittycat. Am I a soppy gran or not?
Sorry the post is so long , I am besotted with our babies and I spend more money than she does, for treats and so on. She says I am daft with the babies. Gill
