Well, guess what i got for Valentine's Day? I awoke to an empty tank on my little nutmeg female. I had forgotten to secure the tank lid, and, you know the rest of the story. I wasn't really too worried since I have had gerbils escape before...my original pair (back in, oh, 1990 or so) escaped and I found them in a large nest they had created in my closet about a day later. So, I figured she would turn up pretty soon in a dark hidey place. Well, about noon that day, we were about to leave and I heard scratching noises in our bedroom. My husband and I both froze and immediately sealed off the room. Well, there behind my nightstand was a huge nest made out of Kleenex tissues and my gerbil right in the middle of it all. Lol. It took a little while to catch her; she would run under our bed then under the nightstand again, and I would be laughing so hard, my glasses kept falling off. Anyway, she's back again SECURED and none the worse for wear! ;D amanda

I bet your laughing didn't help. lol
When I laugh, my gerbs stop and look round like, "What on *earth* is that noise?"

No, it only prolonged the 'capture'. I couldn't see what in the world I was doing. My husband was screaming, "THERE SHE IS! THERE SHE IS! Wait. She's under the stand again. SHE'S OUT! SHE'S OUT! No, she's under it again. THERE SHE GOES! SHE'S UNDER THE BED! Nope, she's gone again." That went on for a good 5 minutes or so. Something about having a 6'2" 260 pound man crawling around screaming about our gerbil just really got to me! a.

ROFL! That was funny! ;D
I've just been away for a few days and hubby was in charge of the girls. Apparently last night he had Moo on the living room chair with him and she 'jumped' and promptly did a runner under the sofa into all the boxes of my sons toys - he played 'catch the gerbil' for some time so I'm told as when he went one way she went the other - sounded very much like your episode LOL! ;D
