Hello i am Hetty the mom of Robert. Tonight onfortunatly our cat cathed one of our Gerbils. My son and I are very sad. But we are also thinking of the last one. Its a male from 4 months now and we wanna introduce as soon as possible a new one so he is not alone. I understand that the younger the better?? We don't wanna have youngs so we are gonna search for another male. Please is it easier with males then females?? To introduce?? Because i dont wanna have my son more sad then he is now. Thnx for reacting. Hetty

Yes, males are easier than females. If you can find another male, 4-6 weeks old, the easier it will be. But it's also very possible to introduce your male to another adult male. How to split introduce - www.petermaas.nl/gerbils/introducing.htm ;D

Thank you for answering so fast. how long must we wait before introducing? i think we search for a younger male because of the trauma my son have now. he saw everything happen in just a moment. He is just 11 and have had these little creatures for his birthday 3 months ago. He wanted them so badly. And i think now the less problems we can get the better for my son and the Gerbils. hetty

You can start today if you want! ;D When you have a very young male, of about 5-8 weeks old you probably doesn't have to use the split-cage method (sometimes you have), because males usually won't see a threat in these young pups! When the male you're going to purchase is older than 8-10 weeks I would recommend to start with the split-cage method!
