I was in PetsMart today, and while I was looking at some gerbils, (Who came right to the front of the cage while another ran extremly fast on it's wheel ) I look down and wouldn't ya know. There in the last tank on the last row...was a Hamster..eating another hamster at the neck. I know they do those sorts of things but the blood..and...it was disgusting..and I felt sorry for the Hamster ...Gerbils are a little better natured than Hamsters, arn't they? I don't know if that Hamster just droped dead or the one eating it killed it; but...yea. When a Gerbil gets into one of those 'death' fights and one dies, will it eat the other? I mean the other Hamsters were just sleeping with the dead one curled up right next to them...my goodness.

Yes, gerbil eat from dead gerbils too. Especially when they are pups, but also with adult gerbils. I've never seen it myself, but have heard it from many people. Probably to clean their burrow, nest. To prevent the attraction of predators by the smell! So gerbils are the same as hamsters in that way!!!
