Ok, I put them together a few minutes ago and they've already fought. Does this mean that they will never be able to be together or do I just have to give it more time (its been 4 days)? If it matters, the younger one instigated the fighting, not the older one like I thought. Does this mean anything? Thanks.

Just give it more time. I would try again in a week. My pairings have taken anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks. No harm done .

Just be patient! Some gerbils are harder to introduce than others. 1-2 weeks is normal! Sometimes when it seems not to work, I introduce them in a different unfamiliar cage, so the only thing they recognise is each other. And hiding places will help. Sometimes it is the one that is scared that will attack the other, not always the dominant one! And try to intervene the fighting, spraying water, etc. That will help sometimes too. Sometimes it is a lot of work to make it happen! ;D

Thanks for those tips Peter! Lsat night, they were each chewing on the wires in their cages trying to get to each other, so I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I was thinking about trying again maybe Monday. This time, I will try to have a water gun with me (we bought some to help with our dog...LOL). I was just shocked when the new one ventured to the where the older one was and just lunged at him. Hopefully it will go better next time. Thanks again. Kim
