I don't think you can tell that the female is in heat unless she has a male in with her. The male and female will mate if the female is in heat and is receptive. Why are you curious about her behaviour while she is in heat? Sorry, but I've never seen that question asked before .

As far as I am aware there is no physical or behavioural signs of being on heat. the only sure way to tell is if there is a male with her.

I have a mongolian gerbil who would thump her feet a lot and raise her rear end when she was in heat, even though her only companion was a female. That was the same way her mom acted when she was mating with the dad. The daughter only did that while her mom was pregnant with the last litter though. I don't know why.

Are you sure that she is that old? If she is over 1 1/2 years of age, I would not breed her. Older females produce very small litters and this can cause problems. I bred a female that was over 1 1/2 years and she had difficulty becoming pregnant. When she finally concieved, there was only one pup. To make a long story short, I had to take her to the emergency vet on a Sunday night. The single pup was too large to come out of the birth canal and the vet had to do some manipulation to get it out. If the pup had been larger, my gerbil would have had to be euthanized . The pup was dead, and the vet cost me $80. Please don't breed her if she is that old.
