I tried out that water/bathtub introduction method today...I had to lone females, kitty and Ducky, who I thought should go together. I put a toy in the bathtub, with an inch of water. I put them both on the toy, and they seemed so confused about *where* they were, they didn't even notice eachother. They sat together, groomed eachother, and didn't show any aggression. 15 minutes later, I put them in a cleaned out five gallon. So far, they have been in thier for ten minutes with only a REALLY MINOR scrap. It looks like it's going to work! Look at the pictures I tooK of it! They're cute...and you might get what Im talking about a bit better. Click on the thumbnails to see them bigger. www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=4926845&uid=2466945

HAHAHAHAHHAHA @ 2nd pic...lmfao. LOL you even got the boxing fight in a pic. I've been trying for one of those.
Glad it's working. ;D
An inch might be a little too much though incase they fell in head first. Might have to do it again too.. I think it took Peter like all night or somethimg. If they're sleeping together though, you're all set. When I used a different water method, one fell asleep first then the other went and groomed him, then they slept together.

Yeah, an inch might be a little to deep. I'll make it shallower next time.

I'm definitely gonna be trying this when I have time and I can find something to put them on in the water. August is a busy month for me, so I'm giving them their time apart right now.

This method sounds great!!! But my 2 girls had a ball-fight just 1 week ago. They seem to be literally fighting each other to death. I got bitten a few times pretty hard while separating them & they've never bite me b4 this incident. Amazingly they both only suffered minjor injuries. Thankz god! Anyway since then, they've been having time-out. Do you guys think I can try this method on them now or should I wait somemore? They've both already recovered fully from their injuries. Tks all! ;D

April -
It'll still work. I've had gerbils get together easily after really tight ball fights.
If you tried breaking up the ball fights with your hands, that's most likely why you got bit.
If they've been seperated for a week, they most likely forgot about eachother by now. Try it. Just make sure to clean out the cages really well before putting them in it.

Hello, I was wondering if any one has tried this with females after the birth and weening of pups. I heard that it is next to impossible to re-introduce females. I would like to put Sweetie and Blackie together after a litter. I don't want the pairs to be constantly having litters unless I can place all the pups. I also don't want to take the males out of the cage so that the females haveto raise pups by themselves. If I can use the water method to re-introduce the females that would be ideal since I don't want to keep a female pup of each and have 2 more tanks.

J, never go around to trying out the method. Split-caged them first, was going to try this weekend. Then one of my girls gave birth last night. Sigh.... total shock man! Can't figure out how she got pregnant in the first place. Anyway I guess I'll reserve this method for when all e pups grow up & I need to separate them.

April, Are you going to keep any of the pups? If you are, you can leave the girls separate and then add a fe4male pup to each cage!! Then they will each have a companion and you won't have to work so hard to introduce them since one is a pup!!
Do you have pictures of the pups? PLEASE!!!! ;D

Haha! Oh I wish I'm half as excited as you sweetie! The birth was totally unexpected so well... I guess I wasn't prepared/ know as much about this issue as I would like to be. Anyway I've no idea how many pups there are. She's super jumpy whenever I change food or water. So I basically leave her alone as much as possible. & Yup, I'll be keeping all pups! That's what I planned as well! Assuming 1) her pups survived and 2) there're 2 or more females. Hey gal, wish me luck!
