Wow, it seems like people response to this idea has changed greatly since I first posted it. It is good to know that my idea is finally being accepted. I thank sweetie for trying it and proving for me that it can work, if for nothing else for getting them to come to you.

Josh your welcome. I am glad that I can help. At least I did not need to prove that I could teach them to jump through hoops ;D. Have you thought of becoming a member? I think that you would add value!! I have continued clicker training and I will eventually teach them some thing. I am thinking of training them to climb a ladder so that they can get into their cages after free raom. I am still in the early stages re-inforcing the treats with the sound. I don't want to try anythin else since I will be in Maine for 18 days and my Dad will be watching the guys. I want to keep it simple so he can continue the gerbils "Basic Training" LOL Josh, THANK YOU for your idea!!! ;D ;D You actually helped me out. I am using skills that I haven't for years. My greatest appreciation for enhancing my life and my gerbils!!!

Not for mine!!!! They will play with it if it is on the florr but they will not climb it. I just got Bear to do it last night but she has not been clicker trained. The newest one honeymunch is getting the clicker treat association though!!

Hmm, a member. I dont post here that often and because I dont have much knowledge. Otherwise I probably would become a member. It seems like you have found two great uses for training. Returning to you and up the ladder. The thing I think will be hard is to get them to know what to do when you click it. I dont think hand signals will work because in my experience, their eyesight isn't the greatest. The only problem I can see myself having with this is that my friendliest gerbil is not motivated by food. I have tried sunflower seeds (which he takes, but only sometimes), and dried banana treats (he wont even take them) I bought for them. He does know that I am the way to go to get out of the tank so when I put my hand in there he jumps on and climbs up my arm. My other gerbil doesn't seem to be as outgoing. I dunno. I am going to keep working on getting them tamer before I introduce the clicker though. Your welcome for the idea.

The "click" eventually becomes the re-inforcer. That is why I am associating the Click with th treat now. Eventually they will hear the click andbe reinforced with out the treat. OF course to keep the association, it is good to give a treat intermittently. Right now, you can start associating the click with a treat. Have you tried carrots or broccoli? They do not have to be tame yet. Also it may help to tame them!! They will associate you with treats/happy. Good luck

I started the click training a few days ago. Every time I give them a treat I click the clicker. Soon they will associate treat with clicker. Here is my proof:
*Click*=Treat Treat=Happy ;D
