Hey there, In another post, it was commented on about kids and gerbils. I just thought I would add a picture and again express that gerbils and kids can coexist happily given the right situations.

Wow, what a great set up! Under adult supervision, of course, and in the absence of cats and other big pets...

What is the red thing that you have covering the carpet? I would love to have a safe play pen like that!

Absolutely with adult supervision! Also, I never let them out when the dogs or the cat is in. Not even in the roll around balls!!! I could not bear the thought of anything happening.
The red thing on the carpet is an old sheet that I put down on the floor to keep the poop and pee off the carpet. It makes clean up easy. I let them chew, bathe, eat etc then I roll it up and shake it off outside. The fencing I got at Walmart$10.00US. I put 2 of them together in that picture. It is a great safe place. Blackie however, leaps from the floor to the top and then over. I have since given up on the fencing since Cowboy is also a great escapee (even under close supervision). I use it now only when I am limited with time and don't want the great chase to get them back in the houses. Other than that, I have blocked off underneath all furniture, all stairways, all other entrances in and out of the livingroom and I let them free raom.

these playpens are great i highly recommend them myself, but you do need two, one is not big enough. sweetie i assume that two runs in the pic. Lucky you just popping to walmart for your pens in the UK these are scarce items, we had to buy them off a bloke on ebay that imports them from germany - madness. means they cost us a good £30 inclding postage to our house for two. I do consider myself very fortunate that I have 2 Walmarts with in 5 miles of my house. Then the trade off is there is only one Petsmart and little other pet stores to buy supplies for the "kids".
Yes it is 2 pens. One was too small!!

walmarts in the Uk are still called Asdas and do not have the variety of products yet like they do in the US... Petsmart which is now called pets at home is utter rubbish!..

I'm finding that out now. Petsmart has a bunch of commercial stuff that the gerbils really don't even like. I swear kids, gerbils and cats are all the same....... They would rather play with boxes and sticks than the toys we spend money on!!

Great setup. ;D haha same here with the Walmarts and Petstores. 2 Walmarts and 2 Targets about 15minutes down the street, 1 Petsmart, 2 Petcos.. lol. I like some of the wooden houses and things Petsmart sells..but too expensive and they chew them down to nothing in a few weeks. But yeah, they're happier with boxes. Same with my dog.. Omg.. I buy $10 toys because I'm obsessed and some of them are really cute.. His favorite toys ever are empty PolandSpring bottles and Jugs..especially because he can make an annoying crackling noise with them.

Most annoying that crackling noise . I wonder why we spend so much on the toys when the animals could care as long as they can destroy or devour them??
