the group of three sister gerbils i have, are all living together and i've had no problems with them as a group since i got them. they were about 6 weeks when i got them and that was on july 7.
i know that many people have had problems with girls living together in groups larger than two, what i want to know is, how likely is it that my girls will start fighting? almost certain, very likely, common, equal chances, etc?

I would say very likely. The best thing that you can do is keep an eye on them. When they hit sexual maturity (4-9 months), that's when you will see problems. If you hear a lot of squeaking, see chasing, or any other odd behaviour, take it seriously.
On a positive note, the female trios that I have heard of working were littermates. So maybe you will be lucky. I really hope so!

Again, from what I have read and have experienced, girls work better in two's not three's but like Queenie stated. Because they are litter mates, it does increase the chances that they may work in the same set up. There are alot of variables. Do you have any males? How big is the housing? Etc. I noticed now that mine are hitting sexual maturity. I got 2 of them at 8 weeks old on June 22nd and the other 2 in July at 8 weeks old. They are not litter mates but get along fine. I have 2 girls and 2 boys. Good luck and keep us posted.

nope, i have no males. i am not 100% sure how big their tank is but i think it must be about 15 gallons, i saw one today that was about 13 gallons and it was quite a bit smaller. i bought a lone gerbil yesterday, sassy, and was thinking of introducing her to one of them, katy, and putting them in a different tank but i have suspicions that sassy may be pregnant [looking at her size, attitude and amount of food she's eating] so i want to be sure of that before i get a split cage out.
