I have a 3-year-old male gerbil who just lost his brother yesterday. He sits and sleeps where his brother used to sleep with him, and he's bitten me twice - he's been really scared lately. I felt his little heart thump fast when I was holding him and talking to him. I don't want my little baby to be lonely. Does anybody have any suggestions for him? Should I get him a friend? And, if I could, how old should the other one be?
I don't want my gerbil to be lonely. Just watching him breaks my heart. - Jen

I am no expert on this but i would definatly get him a freind. A young gerbil is alot easier to introduce than an old mature gerbil so i would get a younger male geril. I had a problem similar to your as my female was lonely so i bought a younger gerbil and now she alot happier. Dont forget to use the split cage method to introduce them though or they will most probably fight. How old is your gerbil? ps: sorry you lost your other gerbil

Get a new one.
Maybe even 2 pups from the same litter if you can find any at around 6 weeks or so. Because 3 is kind of old for a gerbil and at least if you get 2 new pups, you won't have to go through the split intro thing anytime soon.
