One of my gerbs is shivering very slightly when i pick her up. It is so slight that I wouldn't realize if she was doing it in the cage -- only if i am holding her. I noticed this in one of my sister's gerbs too. I keep it warm in their room, so I don't think she is cold, and she is the friendliest and most adventurous, so i don't think she is scared. Anyone know what it is?

I really won't know! But if she looks good, eat and drink good, is active, etc. than I should not worry too much!
Does she do it al the time? But it is always good to keep an eye on it!

Also an interesting observation that the breeder I got Squirt from is that she can tell when her females are in heat because the hair pulses or shivers!! How cool. I actually have never noticed.

interesting I have never noticed but I am wella ware that gerbils purr, although it is only the tamest as they do it when they are very relaxed. So to have a purring gerbil is an honor and a testament to the care and love he/she is given

THat is true!!! Gerbils can purr! I totally forgot that. I've never experienced that myself, by the way. Even my tamest gerbils, never would sit still on my hand or lap. So you're lucky!
Have you all felt it? Because as far as I know your cannot hear gerbils purring like with cats, only feel them purring.

Ooh! i hope it is purring that would be very cute she seems very healthy and i think she was too young to have been in heat when she first started to do it (she was born in october and i first noticed it at least a month ago) if i hold her against my chest and she can still see the cage, she will sit still and let me rub the fur between her ears for several minutes before she gets squirmy -- the other two won't sit still at all, although they will run up my arm on to my shoulder the breeder did a great job of socializing them before i got them, so i can't take all the credit

Some of mine will sit for a bit for a patting but usually only when they are eating.
