When I pick up Pickle he does this wierd tail whirl thing. He whirls his tail in a few circles. He does not seem mad. So what do you think it means?

DOn't worry, all gerbils do it. It is really finny to see a shorttailed gerbil do it! LOL! ;D

I can see where you would be concerned. many animals twirl or twitch the tail when upset, angry, or about to pounce on thier prey. Gerbils do it for balance like the others said. It is cute to watch. I like when I try to put them in the tanks and they wrap the tail around my hand
