When I made my split cage, I just used some hardware cloth. It is metal and has 1 cm squares. Do you have a tank? If you do I would Measure it diagonally so that when the hardware cloth is cut to size it will fit snugly. Make sure it goes all the way to the top of the tank. Then put the cover on. If you do not have a tank, then I am not sure how you can do it. Maybe someone else has done this with something other than a tank?

Nice split cage Peter!
I used a rubber maid tub that was 94 quarts ( i think). I cut out the top of the lid and screwed in fencing for airation. I then took the same fencing and screwes it into the side of the tub to secure it. It was an inexpensive way to do a split cage!!
I am currently using it to separate the breeding pair to control reproduction. This way, I can introduce them after she has had a respite and the intro will be easy!
