i am doing the split cage method for my 2 gerbils, but i have been on many sites and the period of time is different on each site.
How long should i wait? and should i put a wheel in the tank?

Depending on how your gerbils are reacting to each other, you should wait between 2 days and 2 weeks. It really is individual to your gerbils.
I would leave the wheel out of the tank and just give them the necessities (food, water, cardboard). That way, they can't just ignore each other and are forced to meet.

Depends indeed for each gerbil! I usually recommend a week, but for some gerbils a couple of days is enough, and some need 2-3 weeks! Just watch how your gerbils react to each other.

Are your gerbils aggressive toward each other? Are they lunging at each other? Are they trying to groom each other through the cage?
If it has been a few days, I would try to introduce them making sure you have thick gloves on and are prepared to snatch one up if there is any aggression.
