have a 2 year old male gerbil which i rescued from someone hoo wasnt feeding or cleaning him out or ne thing. he has settled in very well apparently he bites but has never bitten me and likes coming out of his cage to play any way do u think another couple would make him happier i would just go and get them but im worried they would fight. advise would be great.

cant you just get 1 more gerbil thats very young and introduce them with the split cage method? If he is a male it should be easier to introduce him i think. pixytwinkle ;D

Unless he's a anti social gerbil, all gerbs would be happier with a pair.

it is always good to give a gerbil a friend, but im not sure wether you should get two or just one. one might be easer to introduce, but when the older one dies, you will just have to get another young one to introduce to the first young one. this could go on for a long time, just getting a new young one to go with the older one, but i think it would work either way.

I understand the situation. I have a lone pup that failed a split cage intro (too submissive) the other gerbils attacked him. I'm sure that he will be happy if he has always been on his own, but it is better to get him a mate. GOod luck!

Considering his age, you might want to introduce him to 2 male pups. That way when he passes, the other 2 will still have each other. I think that trying to introduce him would be better than not trying. Males are very receptive to young pups. Look on AGS or NGS to find a breeder near you.
