Two and a half years ago, I bought 5 gerbils (all pups) and put them together in one cage. Sadly I had to split them up because two gerbils could not get along. So now I had 2 cages, one with 2 gerbils and the other with 3 gerbils. Recently one gerbil died, he was in the cage with the 2 gerbils. So now one gerbil is alone. I am trying the split cage method to introduce the one gerbil to the other 3 gerbils, but I don't think this is working. The Gerbils are very mad at each other even the split cage is still there, I don't think that I can put them together, I thinks than they are going to attack each other. Can it be done and how? introducing one gerbil to the other 3 gerbils? There all male and the same age.

I really don't think it will work. The 3 gerbils have been a clan for 2 1/2 years. What I would suggest is to split cage the one lone male with only one of the males from the group of three. That way you will wind up with 2 groups of two.

Hi I personally would suggest to put two young gerbils in the cage with the lone one. I think that would be the best solution for all animals.

I would suggest split caging the current lone gerbil to one of the group of 3. I would be careful not to choose the one that he could not get a long with the first time. You could introduce 2 new pups but then you would have 6 gerbils. If you can accomodate them and you want to add, you could also do that.
