I woke up this morning to find the other two sisters (Sammy and Marty) covered in blood!!!! So now all three are fighting each other! I am so confused because those two were especially close and had never had a hint of problems before. Sammy is the dominant and far biggest of the three and Marty is the one that was in a fight yesterday with Smat. I don't know who started it. When i came in the room, they were sitting in opposite corners of the tank very still.
I didn't know where to put them, so i have Smat alone in a separate tank (their previous playpen) where i put her after the fight yesterday, and i've split the tank that Sammy and Marty are in. Is it okay to have them see/smell each other immediately after a fight?
Marty has never shown any signs of being a bully at all and is the smallest and friendliest of the three, so i don't know why she was in both fights. It was the other two that seemed to be having some problems with each other.
I don't understand what went wrong or what to do about it -- especially now that i have all three separated. I can't do a 3-way split cage or they won't have enough room to move around. I'm so upset about this whole thing. Please help!

I'm no expert in this... but here's what I would suggest:
Put their cages next to each other, and do it in a triangular shape. Something like: |Cage One| |Cage Two| ............|Cage Three|.............
Then pretend it is a split cage. Do the transfering, which might be tricky. Make sure each gerbil is changed to a different gerbil's cage each time.
Did this help?

I would suggest removing the one who keeps being in the fights and finding her a new tankmate, a young gerbil 5 or 6 weeks old. Females are alot harder to split cage and what not. And I think if you keep them all together you will just keep having this happen.... or worse
