OK, every time I put the sand bath in the cage I have for my two males, Cocoa and Butter, after Butter takes his bath, Cocoa starts chasing him around marking him like they just met and he doesn't smell right or something. Does anyone else have this problem. And they fight over who gets to go in and take a bath first. Sigh.

My girls squabble in the sand bath but I think it's just because they roll onto each other. I think there is some heirachy to who gets to bathe first - which may explain the re-marking, which is Cocoa's way of saying "I'm the boss, you're the little one."

I havent seen any behaviour like that from my gerbils, But some of my gerbils are still small compared to their parents, maybe someday they would do similar behviour. Perhaps try added a larger sand bath area, or adding two different sand baths.

I see it as the Higher up male, now smells his little budy, and the buddy don't smell like him anymore, so he;s got to mark him a few more times to make sure "he is HIS little buddy". My males do it to. I've never had a big fight from it though, just dominance marking.

Thanks for posting everyone. -Jeremiah
