as we all know, gerbils from petshops can be skittish around people. i have an activity that i think might work in helping tame them. do you think it would have an effect?
what i do is take them in the playpen, and get a long wraping papaer tube,( i prefer the hard ones) and let them climb up it into my hand. the enjoy running up the tub, then down. sometimes they just slide down themselfs, and ruffle up there fur, making EXTREMLY cute pictures!

I think its a great way to get a skittish gerbil to come up and play, they can't seem to resist going in the tube. My kids do something similar when playing with the gerbils, but it is with a plastic tube. -Kaye

You often find that petshop animals will act differently after you have owned them a few days, like when my mum got 3 little thugs (Russian Hamsters) from a petshop and they weren't ment to be suitable with childeren, but they settled down quickly and looked just like 3 non-thug like hamsters and were pretty good with children (I was 7-8 at the time) even when (to the poor teacher's suprise) I took them to school for a talk and handed them round!!! (they all cam back fine)

lol as cute as Totty might be she would probably be quite happy to give my fingers a nibble, even if it doesnt draw blood Ive slowly been taming her and shes gradually gotten better, although still retains her "Ewww a human tried to touch me!!!" face whenever I go near her, and yet its ok for her to occasionally come closer to my hand o.0 THe other night she even leapt onto my arm (rather, my jumper) with Rose and Bea, who, as usual, were WAY too over-excited. Man that was the scariest moment She'd given me a slight nip before so I was a little skittery, and probably will be for a long time (three times deep bites?! No thanks!)
