Is it normal for gerbils to be so uninterested in danger. I was warned when I first got my snakes that a number of people had bad experiences with how mice reacted to the intruder but my gerbils never even let on there was a danger in the room.
Also my auntie was staying with us at Christmas and she brought her cat with her. I made sure the tank lid was properly sealed and then thinking the gerbils would hide and the cat would get bored left them alone. However about an hour later I came in and the gerbils were busy cleaning them selfs as close to the glass as possible with the big Persian happily pawing the glass.

I have one gerbil that runs and hides even when I look at him... that's just who he is. Most of my others, however, really could care less... like when my dog comes over to visit for the day... he just stares and whimpers... and the gerbs just continue on. One time Ritzie was out (last year, when i just had 2!) And she was sitting right in front of TJ (the dog) and he picked her up. Scared the heck outta me! But she just sat there in his mouth and looked around. And my dog (the sissy he is) freaked out because she was moving on his tounge... LOL He never did touch a gerbil after that, but Ritzie never acted different either.

Gerbils are too curious for their own good. Spree has tried to attack the Vaccum cleaner in the past!!!

My dog wishes he could get a gerbil in his mouth, but he would probably do the same thing, he's such a chicken dog. Thanks for sharing...I needed the laugh. -Kaye

My first pair of gerbils (way back when) had a cat IN their tank! They ran all over him exploring his soft long fur, he sat there panicked out of his mind. He was trying to escape small children who came to viset and jumped on top of the makeshift tank lid I had (books) and fell in! After then he was more scared of gerbils then kids! LOL If you look at all my gerbil pictures, almost every signle one will have "The Gerbil Watcher" somewhere in the background or reflextion of the glass

My kitty is like that too... He'll sit for hours and just watch the gerbils running around in their cages. Occasionally he'll bat at them with his paw. It's funny to watch, but he gets yelled at when he jumps on top of the cages!

My boys are fascinated by everything! Apparently Harrison spent all of yesterday watching my other half's mother do the ironing (rare occurrence in my house) he thought the iron was amazing! He's also taken to trying to climb up the plug chain when we put them in the bath; it's so funny to watch. He's totally fearless, bless him. Luckily we don't have any other pets to worry about as I'm sure he'd beat them up.

LOL If you look at all my gerbil pictures, almost every signle one will have "The Gerbil Watcher" somewhere in the background or reflextion of the glass Hah! That's hilarious! My mother has a cat, a little princess who is quite lazy and definitely afraid of her own shadow. When the gerbs are at my parents' home, the cat sits with her face against the glass of the tank. The gerbs on the inside are interested in her at first, but after a while they get bored. Then they make sure to do everything as close to the glass as possible--groom, box, nap, chew cardboard. The cat pretends to be tough, but in reality, she's a bit spooked about the little squiggly things in front of her face. Any sudden movement or sound sends her flying out of the room and under the couch.
