Help! I just got a new gerbil and introduced them to the two previous ones I've had and they are attacking it. I completely changed their aquarium (from aspen to hay) and now they have a water bottle, new houses, ect but when I put the new one in they chase it and attack it. I even put the new one in first and added the two others and at first they were looking around the tank then started to chase it around.
What do I do?

Gerbils are very territorial. You have to split-cage them, or introduce them in neutral territory like a bathtub. For example, you could buy another cage with bars (use just the cage top) that fits in your aquarium and put her in it for a couple of weeks until everyone gets used to each other before letting them have full contact. Otherwise they will kill her. Really.

Introducing a single or even pair of gerbils to an allready esstablish clan is pretty impossible. Being gerbils are so territorial, specialy females. The only way to do this is through a split cage meathod as Sandy has mentioned, though it's not 100% that it will work in this situation, and it will need alot of time and paitence.

As I advised on your previous thread, it's very difficult to intro girls and it has to be done carefully but as others have said it's often very difficult, if not impossible.

not really, seeing as the old 2 have got used to eachother for a while and have got used to their tank, and putting the new one in the home first may've been a mistake too, it'd be like coming home to find a burglar in your house!!! lol! ;D if i were a gerbil, i'd want to chase any intruders away! ;D

Since they are so young they should intro ok with a 2 week split.

I saw the pictures of the 2 gerbils and they are older then 5 weeks, more like 10-12 weeks, while the other lone gerbil is about 5 weeks old.

What a strange thing to say!! I think the issue here is that themini didn't know how to introduce gerbils. She won't be the first or last to make that mistake and has remedied the problem. The best advice I can give any new owner of any animal is find out as much as you can and if your going to change their environment (like adding a new animal) it's a good idea to ask those with experience the best way to do this. This applies to any species.
