My setup is finally... final! I'm getting rid of the smallest tank with topper (Bottom right) soon, and putting the tank in the first photo there instead. I bought the big tank and topper today (Bottom left), as a 6 month early birthday present.. My dad's put shelving up for me tonight and all, I think it looks pretty smart.

I finally feel worthy to post what my gerbils live in. I got this tank today at boot sale for £10.00 so I'm pretty happy with this.

It makes me a little sad; I've seen a few pictures and instances while I've been here so far where the gerbils are spoiled as heck and then the person will say, Oh, and that's my hamster.../tiny cage. Or, And once my hamster dies, my gerbils will get his cage! Seriously, as a hamster/rodent lover, that makes me want to cry. Anywho...my setups. Here's the 10 that contains my lone gerbil. Unfortunately, I run a rescue (therefore the gerbs I have are up for adoption), so a 10 is all he gets. No elaborate setups for these guys, just what they need. Apparently I have several different versions of it: And here's what it looks like now: He actually used to be in a converted bird cage for a while. As for my other two, they're in a 20 long...I apparently also have different versions of this. I used to have them all in a large bin (same dimensions as the 20L). And then I used to have the pair in the same bin after they were separated, until they began chewing the edges of it.

Wow, You all have such great set ups! Mine changed today, with an added cage topper, and much more bedding (not as much as I wanted though.. I new I should have bought the bigger bag of aspen xD ) This was it before adding the topper: And this is it after.

This is the new habitat I created for Rosie and Petunia. I can't really afford a 20 gallon tank right now, so I did the next best thing and bought a large 32" long x 15" wide plastic see-thru container for $8. We cut the middle out of the top of the lid and bought some mesh so there would be air circulation. I cut a piece of cardboard the width of the container and inserted two cardboard tubes and basically divided the container in half. I want the one side to have most of the aspen shavings for burrowing. Then I filled in the chips and added the driftwood and shells. In the other half of the container I placed their wheel, food and house. I used a large rock to hold down the base of the wheel (large rat size) so it doesn't "walk" when they are using it and end up hitting the side of the cage. The "girls" have been waiting in the bathtub for their new house to be finished, my dog, Tabitha, was babysitting! When all was ready - the girls were put back in their new home. Within minutes they have explored everything and are still running around like crazy. THe first thing they checked out was the food and water. I have to devise something to hold a water bottle, but for now - there is just a bowl with some water sitting on a rock. Hopefully it will not get too full of wood chips - I'll keep an eye on it. The rocks are easy to clean, the cardboard divider is easy to replace when it needs it. Even with everything in the cage - it is still easy to lift.

my gerbil cage: temporarily with cage-in-cage set up. the size is 50x60x100 cm, I bought it at a reptileshop. the gerbils arent strong enough to open the glass sliding doors so its perfect big bonus is that they can dig as much as they want without making a mess in my room lol I used a chopped up wooden bed-table to create the extra floor. When adding logs to your tank, its best to buy them at reptile shops; at least then you know it doesnt have any bugs inside (like the ones you get from nature usually have).

I've got two tanks, one 20g with topper and one 10g with topper. I switch Hans and Jerry between them every cage cleaning. 20-gallon 10-gallon

Gosh, those set-ups are soo nice! I'm humbled, haha. I'm going to invest in a topper within the next month for my 10 gallon.
Somewhere in there is a large pickle jar (cleaned out, of course), a coconut shell turned upside down and used as a food bowl, and a three-step metal kitchen shelf thingy from Wal*Mart with cardboard on top each level. It was only $4, so I had to get it!
Before I added the rice box. After I added the rice box and the steps. (: I held it all together with tape. If anyone has any ideas for a better/safer adhesive, PM me!

Our tank is nothing compared to most of these, but we upgraded to a bigger one today and I'm pretty happy with it, so I figured I'd share in here anyway! It's divided into two sections with the cardboard, and under all the bedding on the right hand side is a maze of cardboard, a couple toilet paper tubes, a terra cotta pot, and a cardboard platform. There are other holes in the milk container for them to crawl through, though you can't see them. Exploring their new setup.
