R.I.P one of the babies making the group 14 not 15 I also have a pic of my eldest gerbil coco ( 3 years and 4 months old ) In a tank on his own because sadly his brother past away....

My cage is primitive looking but it does the trick! It's a 21 gallon tote which houses my two guys. The wheels on the tote work excellent. Before I vacuum the living room, I scoot the tote into the kitchen so it won't be as loud for them. I got a rectangle in the lid and used a "kitchen shelf" as wire to cover the opening, just in case they do get out, but they can't really get up that far. I lined the cut out area with tape to cover and sharp edges. I had to tape the water bottle to the side of the tank. It tended to lean outwards and if it leans too much, no water will come out. Better to be safe than sorry. This is the first time I changed their cage... I was using Aspen and Timothy hay, but decided to add some Carefresh this time to see what it's like... plus, I happen to be allergic to the aspen Their burrows hold up better in this mixture. This is how I built is this time around... in the bottom layer, I added two boxes and a bendable log. I stuffed the two boxes with tolite paper and added some treats. I then covered the boxes with Carefresh, aspen, then timothy hay. I then added a couple more boxes. I later ended up stuffing the pop case with chewed apart cardboard that I removed from their litter when I changed it. I then added more carefresh, aspen, and timothy hay. I threw in another bendable log on top, a ladder, their food dish and wheel. I decided today to tape the wheel to the top of the container so that they couldn't bury it Not bad for my first set-up, eh? They've been having a ball in it this time around. They dug down, exposing the bendable log at the bottom, and pulled tolite paper up to the top of the cage... hehe. Might add some more bedding once I get some more Aspen... I ran out last night. That stuff makes my nose stuffy and made me cough... hopefully the hay/aspen/carefresh mixture will be a good compromise for the three of us.

Hey, My first post on this forum. Been a while since I have kept gerbils about 4 years had previously bred them but I recently decided I would like some again and acquired 4 females and made a tank for them myself. The measures out at 36" x 12" x 42" which equates to roughly 78 gallons. The cost to make it was roughly £10 for wood, £7 for MDF, £20 for wire sheeting and £16 fr metal corner plates. The glass tank I acquired for free via freecycle, had to pay my tunnel fees to get to Liverpool but that was it. They've been in this tank for about a month now I also have a playpen for them to play in when they come out but usually they can run around the sofa or hall. I recently just quit my job in a petshop which I got discount on certain items for the tank and gerbils, the petshop has had an extremely good track record for animal care though the boss was rather abusive. Any questions about my tank or help making one like it I'd happy help! On another note, for anyone who thinks theres too much space for them to have territoria issues, you will notice that a large volume of the tank which allows them to use fully is in the tank which is full of straw, the rest of the tank only has two levels which doesn't allow much 3d movement, apart from climbing obstacles. I'm yet to experience any issues and in the past I have always found that if they're sleeping together happily they won't have many problems with their space.

Here is Chip and Dale's home. Everytime I try to "perfect" their environment, they go behind me and mess it up! I have learned to not interfere with them anymore - they get angry with me! This is when I first set it up, the hammock is now gone This is more current, but right after I had leveled all the bedding. They have since dug it all up into a mountainous pile!

My aquarium is small but I made it as great as possible! I tried to make it look like a natural environment and also very stimulating for my boy gerbils, Ziggy and Binki.

Brand new owner, brand new cage. I initially had my heart set on a 29 gallon, but this 20L is perfect. My husband whipped up these shelves in about 20 minutes for less than $5. The background 'wallpaper' is scrapbook paper. I patiently searched Craigslist, clearance sales, etc, and got everything for under $100 for the initial set up, including bedding, food, etc. Shown is before bedding, after bedding, and after Mary and Jane took up residence. Enjoy!

this is the top we made for the gerbs tank. The tank is about a 200 gallon tank custom made. I can't figure out how to post all the pics I have of it so if someone could tell me how to insert an image or images i would be grateful.

Here are my girls tanks, they're 10 gallon tanks. Bella & Alice's Tank: Midnight & Patches: Midnights hiding in their house in the left corner. Squeakers & Sara: Each of the cages has a wooden house, they've just all buried them in the bottom left hand corner. And also each had a bigger box buried in the right corner for them to hide in as well. I plan on getting tank toppers for them soon too.

this is our tank for our two girls. they have been in there for a week now and spend most of their time in the bottom tank section, but they do go up into the top sometimes (i don't think they really like walking on the bars). i have made a tunnel section to go in the bottom of the tank from some wood from the DIY shop. they absolutely love this part and have made a nice "nest" under it. I'll get some pics of this when we clean them out no signs of chewing the plastic yet, but we are keeping a close eye on it

just wanted to share a couple of photos of our tunnel system. it's made from a pack of wall paneling and a length of timber from the local homebase shop. it has brass screws holding it together so any parts that get chewed too much, or wee'd on too much can be changed..... it's the perfect length and width to fit in the tank so it can't slide about, and there is a hole in the floor inside the "hut" part for the gerbils to go down through.... once it's in the tank and covered with bedding, the gerbils absolutely love it !!!

Here's the little cage my gerbils have, Its nothing fancy but they seem to enjoy it. Under all of the bedding is a flower pot that they have buried and a bunch of toilet paper and paper towel rolls.

Updated pics with new Jotco topper and mobile cart. You'll notice I put the black duck tape around the sharp bottom edge.
