Nice , what cage is it? Thanks Its a living world eco habitat in medium (very heavily modified) and a hamster cage top as a topper (only one modification). |

Gonna set something like this up tonight. Although I bet they’ll just ignore it, like they’ve done all my most recent enrichment attempts... |

Gonna set something like this up tonight. Although I bet they’ll just ignore it, like they’ve done all my most recent enrichment attempts... Yep mostly for fun and it's like nesting material on tap. I have had it happen that one was emptied in a day...and nothing of importance was done with the tp lol. Then sometimes it gets ignored for weeks. Fickle creatures 😅 |

It's like the garland thing two of mine have (with bits of wood on). They completely ignored it for weeks and then one day Daisy woke up and decided, today is the day the garland must be destroyed.

Gerbils do that all the time  I had something similar too when Rolo had a rabbit-sized willow ball which she barely touched for 3 months, then one day there was only wooden scraps left! |

Realised I've never actually added my cage here! The setup is pretty much constantly changing (because of both the gerbils and me), but this is their current setup. 3/4 is deep bedding - with various chews, toys and hides; 1/4 is sand - with their wheel, water, hanging chew and coconut hide. Getting a topper or tall lid built soon so it can be filled to the very top with bedding! P.S. if you look closely, you'll see Mali sitting in the holey tunnel imgur.com/gallery/PGL0452 |

Nice! And yea I see Mali poking her head out, cute I never realised the Detolf was deeper at one end than the other, how tall are the 2 ends?

Wow! Looking through this whole thread(!) I realised how dated most of the set ups are in the 1st 13 pages or so, many are (now) minimal sized set ups, with far from ideal wheels! (Meshed and spoked!). Time we started a new thread I think, and I think I'll copy some of the more recent posts/pics to kick it off (tomorrow). Test converting link to in thread pic...... Realised I've never actually added my cage here! I'm so sorry Markpd , I was genuinely sure I had replied to you and remember writing a reply! I must have never gotten round to finishing and posting it. Anyway, about the Detolf's two ends - they're both the same depth/height! I'm sorry if I made it sound otherwise, but they're both around 15 inches tall. I just have a 'deeper' end where the gerbils can dig/play and a 'shallower' end (with sand). I'm not sure if it was the picture as the picture does make it look like there's a deeper end, but they're both the same! --- While I'm here, I have to say I totally agree. There were very few cages that are suitable in our eyes now, and it seemed people hadn't got any objections? Small pet care especially is improving all the time really, which an be seen here for sure. |
