Tried my best to upload photos.. so a little back story on our little buddy here. He is a 1yr old born in August. Previous owner got him from their friend who's gerbil had babies or something like that. He was handled by the kids of the orevious family, they also stuck him in a ball (which I have binned) and his cage was also knocked down by their dog so he's a bit of a skittish boy. Hoping he trusts me enough one day to atleast be able to do a weekly health check. The cage I put him in was never originally going to have a gerbil in it. I was actually preparing it for a new syrian hamster (our last died recently due to old age) so please bare in mind this whole adoption and cage setup was a complete random spur of the moment last thing. And it will be changing when stuff arrives, currently it's just temporary but bare in mind what he cane in compared to now is still a massive upgrade which he has already started making burrows with what little substrate he does have. He could never do that before. I was just casually browsing the free ads on a local Facebook group and I came across this adorable guy free to good home. Instantly I said yes because he was in a small cage, tiny wheel, 1 inch of bedding. So keep in mind his new cage/setup isn't finished because it was never meant to house anything for atleast a week. Because I need to fill the substrate up to the top of the perspex glass. He was also being fed a hanster/gerbil mix so I'm currently temporarily feeding him our past hamsters getzoo food as we have like half a bag left. Waiting in the gerbil food to arrive. (I was quite unprepared for a gerbil so things are going to change/improve) I am however very open to advice, things to add, remove or change about his enclosure. Just please bare in mind I was never intending on getting a gerbil but a hamster and this cage wasn't meant to house anyone for atleast another week until the bedding arrived etc. Next week this cage will have a bedding depth of atleast 35cm. The links below hopefully work in showing you our adorable buddy. i.imgur.com/vRSlDBw.jpegi.imgur.com/rz4HBSm.jpegi.imgur.com/CdhSwfg.jpegi.imgur.com/QzTN2rV.mp4i.imgur.com/Jddl9QG.jpegi.imgur.com/Ivdz8cS.mp4

this picture is to show the before and after. The little cage is what he lived in for the past year. The big cage is mine and what he will live in from now on.

What’s that fantastic cage he’s in please?! It's called the nagarium more deluxe It's over 200 euros but I was lucky enough to find the cage with a syrian and a lunch of accessories for 100e Few have said it isn't suitable incase he chews the wood inside so it's something to consider but I've provided so much different chews and what not he hasn't even tempted to chew the cage. I think its just having a great time with his upgrade.

Your cage looks fabulous. I think a lot of us are jealous Wouldn't a wood cage be awfully hard to clean, though? And what if they start chewing it?

That was a concern but a few have said it's OK and a few have said otherwise. There isn't actually much wood on the inside and so far he hasn't attempted to to chew the inside. He has that much chew toys and stuff he's been having a great time with but if any issues do arise and he does chew the cage I'll put him temporarily back into his small one and I'll go get the ikea detolf and hack/diy that but so far he seems super happy and is thoroughly enjoying the space

Yeah we certainly really like the cage. Was great for our syrian and is proving really good for the gerbil too. These websites below sell the cage. I'm not sure if they ship to the UK but I'm in Ireland so the previous owner must have ordered it from France or Germany www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/OffersOfProduct/200741364_-more-for-nagarium-deluxe-more-for.htmlwww.fressnapf.de/p/more-for-nagarium-deluxe-1324495/www.maxizoo.fr/p/more-nagarium-deluxe-for-1324495/

All looks great - nothing to worry about (apart from keeping an eye on the back corners over time).
As well as all the great enrichment your have in there - they have just as much fun sometimes with a great big pile of shredded paper or kitchen roll, simple cardboard boxes and clumps of long-strand hay or straw. Just that way you can add something new each day - even if it is just something small to peek their interest - it adds to the existing enrichment no end.

He has some toilet roll tubes I gave last night. Mini cereal box given today and I'll add in some toilet roll later. I actually have some hay coming in a delivery next week as well as some more chews and treats I might have even found a friend for him to start a bonding process soon. Just the issue of arranging transport so we will see there

That's a lovely cage. I've seen it on European websites but I don't believe it's available in the UK. I have the Living World Eco Habitat, which is like the bottom part of it without the barred section, and which is available on Amazon.co.uk, though very expensive now. I protected the corner posts by gluing aluminium corner profiles over them.
Your gerbil is stunning, by the way.
It's great to have you here. I am daisy from Hamster Clubhouse who referred you here.

Oh hello! yes thank you for the referral. Yes he is certainly a very handsome boy. I know it's early days but I think he's showing some signs of stress? On the top left of the cage you'll see a circle. That's the entrance to his sand box. He spends a lot of time on top of that box or digging the perspex when inside the box. Hoping he stops this behaviour when I get the bedding at 35cm but have you any advice? He's extremely active. Very different to hamsters. I don't think he's even slept yet.. he just seems to rest on top of the sand box. He's very skittish too. He don't bother him. Often offer treats and he does take them from us. He did get startled though and bit my partner. I reckon he's a bit stressed
