I'm so very so for both of their deaths. I'm genuinely mystified about what this could have been, I don't think it was an SGT, but as I've not dealt with that particular illness before, I can't say for sure beyond my basic understanding of SGT and its symptoms, though I've never heard of it taking a turn like this. I'm glad he was comfortable when he passed and that it was quick and as painless as it could be in that situation. It could have been something from the environment... but I think it depends on how far you took them, out of town, state, or country. Even though you raised them, it could have been any number of things, and I'm sure that you did your best to care for them as they grew up, which as far as I'm concerned is what matters. I'm so sorry for all that's happened, I wish I could have done more, and I hope what I've said has helped.

Soo sorry Scooter passed away, it is never easy to lose a pet esp. when you see they aren't well near the end. Take it easy on yourself, don't blame yourself and i'm sure next time will go better for you. Take great care.

Another concern i have for my remaining 2 is that, perhaps mold in my room due to the humidity might have caused their infection? So I will clean the remaining 2s tank, and put them in the main house (im in the guest house) for my dad to look after them. Theres less humidity in there.

It is certainly worth considering an environmental cause for something that you believe to be unusual. Gerbils are usually quite hardy little critters - but dampness and/or dustiness are two of the least wanted conditions for them - especially if they are in a mainly glass enclosure.
While they are gone (if you do move them) would be the best time to treat your room with mold-inhibiting protector paints/coatings so that there is a better environment for you as well. Then potentially (once the room/rooms have been completely aired) the gerbils could be moved back in with you in a month or so and that will be one less thing to worry about.
I have had to live temporarily in a few places on the damp end of the scale for sure - and I think some houses are just set up/built in a way that encourages it because I haven't really changed the way I do things - but some properties just don't seem to suffer as much as others.
Anyway, I hope your two little guys don't mind the move and fingers crossed they don't get poorly from anything at all, ever....

Humidity may have been the cause, and if not was possibly at least a contributing factor. Could this have been some kind of fungal infection from the mold? I know infections of that kind can have some nasty results, and I've heard they can cause illnesses such as this.
Moving them to the main house is a good idea, and while they're gone, as Betty suggested, would be a good time to treat your room/house for mold. Some of the only ways to do that can be harmful to animals, so the best time to do it would be when they're out of the house. The outcome of doing so might also make better living conditions for you and any other pets you might have, as well as for the gerbils.
Most importantly, I hope that everything works out okay and that your other two are happy and healthy and don't mind the move.

Sorry to hear Scooter passed away , at least he is resting in peace now. And I hope you're 2 remaining gerbils stay healthy. Btw, as jamie alluded to, mould in your room could cause issues for you, sooner or later. If you can sort that out, it'd be better for yourself and pets alike. Call afew vets in your area and see if they will put a gerbil to sleep for less money and explain your gerbil is suffering, I was able to find one that does this in my area (I can't have a vet assess them as usually the vet that sees small animals isn't there when I've had to have a gerbil put down, but i was 100% sure there was nothing that could be done other than Put to sleep). Scooter doesn't look well at all and if you think he is suffering, the only thing to do is to have him Put down. Out of interest, and for anyone else reading this thread now and later, how much did it cost you to have a gerbil PTS? And do I remember rightly you're in Canada? I wish I could give a price from the UK, but unfortunately I never asked the vets.

it varies by Vet in Canada, my usual vet needs you to pay their fee as a vet has to see them before being PTS- it's $90 plus tax this year! plus the cost of PTS which i think is free? and depending what to what done- community cremation($16) and more if want the ashes bac(i think is over $100 as i didn't ask when i was their this year as my pet had passed before i got to the vet, so i chose to bring him home and bury him myself. I have another vet that can't see small animals and have had gerbils pts for under $20 but you have to be sure your pet is past saving- so i use them when they decline quickly and need to be PTS.
