I ordered a wheel online called a Wodent wheel. The front of it has holes for them to get in and out. The gerbs were very curious about the holes, so they went in and started walking. After a bit, they figured out running in it was fun. Of course, they also realized they could chew the wheel to pieces, so I don't recommend the Wodent wheel for long term. Once they figure out wheels you can get them a better one. heather

Gerbils don't really need a wheel.

Gerbils don't really need a wheel. No animal really does. But, some gerbils like them.

I saw an awesome idea for a wheel that will take a while for the little guys to chew. A coconut with the top 1/6th cut out. They can climb in and roll around if the cage is big enough. If not, they can use it for a house.

Cool! Now I wonder where I could get coconuts? They're so tasty, but I havent seen one in years. Did you know that there are more coconut attacks in the world than shark attack. Learned that in 6th grade. ;D

try an asian or mulsim food shop, especially a halal one they are half the price in those places (about 30p)!!! or do as I do..........buy cheap ready made coconut bird houses!!!!!! I pay £1 a time for mine!!!
As for wheels gerbils love them!!! At least some do Plastic wheels should only be used outside the cage or they will be chewed upmetal wire wheels must be covered with carde or something so tails and feet don't get trapped I ahve seen a number of 'make your own' gerbil wheel ideas and will be tryign that soon I'll let you know how I get on!!!
Wodet wheels are designed for wall huggers like rats and are brilliant wheels BUT not suitable in gerbil cages (plastic) and very difficult to keep clean (mine is presently dismantled and in soak in disinfectant!!!!)

i have only seen one wheel appropriate for a tank, and it is a wire wheel. I guess I could put duct tape on it.

How DO you make tanks? I would love to make my gerbils another terrarium. But I spoil them anyway... new wooden houses every time they chew one up..... stopping the car on a mountainside road to get fallen bark(which I'm going to bake or freeze to get rid of the bugs)..... sunflower seeds picked out of bird food for the wild birds, SPOILED little guys... but I love them so much! ;D All of you who have spoiled gerbs know how I feel "Dont get another toy for them... dont get another toy... OH BUT I have TO! They'll love it..." ya get me!
