;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Yesterday I got my 1st 2 gerbils. Anyway, it had been about 2 hours since they had been put in their new home. One of my gerbils ,who I've named Daisy, only came out when the other gerbil, named Dixie, came out. I think that my gerbils are both sisters, because they are 99.9% alike the only difference I've seen is that Daisy is missing a claw. Anyway, Dixie was snooping around her new home with Daisy right on her tail. Then, Dixie saw the wheel. She went up and sniffed it in curiosity. Slowly she climed up onto the wheel and in about 2 seconds she discovered it moved. WOOSH! She ran out of that wheel faster than a jackrabbit. Daisy, stunned by her sister's run by, slowly backed away from the wheel, and shot around for their igloo house. Later on Dixie climed back on to the wheel and started walking, running, sprinting. She was running so fast that her back legs were on 1 side of the wheel and front legs on the other. That is my story about the 1st encounter with the wacky wheel. Daisy is now getting used to the wheel, but Dixie is still going faster. 1st pet: Dog (Sandy) 2nd pet: fish (Fraiser) Now dead. R.I.P 3rd pet fish (Niles) 4th and 5th pets: GERBILS (Dixie and Daisy)

Hey ecoa,
It is cute to watch them experience something for the first time. I am sure the wheel will be investigated by Daisy but she may not use it.
I recently got wheels and the girls love it. They run so fast, they get flung out of it. THe boys however are a bit lazy and only sit on the wheel.

It is fun for the young ones to discover the wheel. When I got my two almost a year ago. My lilac girl Speedy loved it the first time she was on it. It took her sister Gimpy a little while to love the wheel also. She doesn't go as fast but they are now lost without it.

For the few days, my Gerbils were more interested in burying the wheel than use it. oO' After we cleaned their caged and did some reorganizing that they learned they can run forever on the wheel and not run into anything. It was so fun to see them play with the wheel! Daru even tried to climb the outside of the wheel and it was funny how he landed on his rear. So far Cabal, my girl is the big runner. Daru runs too but it's more often Cabal in the wheel than him.

When my mother gerbil, Vanilla, had pups, I removed the wheel. After her second litter grew up, I put the wheel back in. The second Vanilla saw the wheel, she let out a squeak and ran uncontrollably on the wheel for 10 minutes! ;D

My gerbils were a bit wary about the wheel I bought last week. Things looked up when I had them in the playpen and they started using the wheel there. Last night I managed to video one in the wheel in their tank, you can see him here. youtube.com/watch?v=vWHUQJDky44
