just thought. chocolate is in the bad list, what about choccie treats for small animals (the buttony thingies), taste nice i know that, 1 for u 1 for me is how it normally goes hehehe. I did wonder if humans can eat them - I mean, some gerbil treats have ash listed in the ingredients, though the choc treats never seem to list the ingredients. Anyway, it's only Dusky that likes them, and she'll only eat them a few times a week. And sometimes, she won't eat them at all. But Dusky won't eat mealworms (at least as far as I know, only just gave them some today), but Sandy loves them - she's not satisfied with eating it out my hand, she'll pull it out and then take it to the plant pot (sleeping area) and munch it quickly. My sister was horrified when she discovered I'd made her a coffee after touching mealworms. But I did wash my hands! Though, I too find mealworms disgusting and was considering not buying them at all! But as Sandy loves them, I've now got to handle those disgusting things (I'm not giving too many though)! There's no way she's having live meal worms though! ;D

Mealworms..hmm, are they inexpensive? And can you buy them frozen, and does it matter whether they're dead or alive? Might be more fun for The Gerbs if they're alive.

xxMillertimexx - Mealworms are very cheap, well i can get ahold of a big box of them for £1.50 from a petshop local to me, the best ones are alive gerbils enjoy erm.. pulling them apart poor things haha!
Mine didnt take interest in the dry-frozen ones that i got for them so i bought some live ones, just keep them in a fridge so they dont pupate!

I will be getting some plants soon (I already have two, not sure what they are, but they are in the kitchen well away from my gerbils who are in the living room. Is there a list of safe plants to have in my living room? I've seen some good very large ones at Home Bargains/Quality Save/Home&Bargain (they don't like to stick with just the one name, a bit like Coop in the early nineties!) and would like them in my living room.

Most plants are safe as long as the gerbils don't eat them. If you can move the plants to another room when you let the gerbils have out-of-tank time, you should be fine.

My gerbil LOVES blueberries. He's safely eaten them with no sideffects. Er...well maybe begging for another one, but I'd feed only one at a time.

Lambs Lettuce. Something all 3 of mine go slightly crazy for. Chop it up and sprinkle it in a small heap. They stay at it for hours.

How about Cherries? Not the fake candy cherries, but real cherries, the one's with the seed inside.

I tried a peice of apple on mine last night and he showed no interest. I'll try different things on him though.I'm a true believer that even rodents like to be spoiled sometimes.

What about Basil? Alfalfa cubes (the ones you give to horses) and fresh from the bale?
