Mine have never eaten the paint or wallpaper but with gerbils, anything is possible. As long as you're supervising they should be fine.

Mine havent tried to eat paint, but I dont think they can get a grip on a smooth surface like a wall. I did cover up my baseboards, which they would almost certainly try to chew.

Ok maybe just curious then?
Any more tips left for transportation? They had a blast in the hallway ruining back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and- well, you get it. They’ll fight being moved to and fro like anything

So excited!! First sand playtime today! But I saw something a little concerning the other day. My gerbil, S’more has a bit of blood on her nose. I think it might be scratches from chewing on her water bottle. I did get them a new one today!
Is there anyway I can keep them from chewing their bottle?
Also just TRIPLE TRIPLE checking with sand. Because I have seen pictures and heard stories about sand killing their gerbils. I got play sand from Home Depot which was recommended to me. And will be cooking and sifting

I know you've just got another bottle, but could you get a glass water bottle? they wouldn't be able to chew that! Sorry, not sure about the sand, But I would be almost 100% sure that if it was recommended and you cook and sift it, it'll be absolutely fine

Lily used to destroy water bottles. It was a bit of an obsession for her (she destroyed two in one night once) so in the end I had to sit the water bottle on top of the cage lid with the spout poking through the bars of the lid. If you have a fine mesh lid or a bottle that isn't flat on the bottom this won't work though. You could look for a glass bottle or sometimes you can get metal bottle guards that prevent chewing.

That’s what I thought too! But I’ll look for respiratory issues after the sand use just to play it safe. And LilyandDaisy, I will hopefully be getting the topper within the next month or so. Is it normal for them ( especially Doodle) to fight the transportation so much? I mean I guess I would too I would like to make it less stressful though, they have such a good time in the hallway!

What's a Snickerdoodle?? lol
As for capturing them, how about using a poster tube, or some other long tube to lure them into it?

Oooh - I like the sound of that snack! Anything with cinnamon has got to be winner (*searching amazon right now).
And I forgot to mention before - my jirds ripped the plaster straight off the wall. There was a sort of weak spot where the heating pipe went through the wall and they hooked their teeth under it - thankfully it didn't do them any harm as they only pulled off a little bit of my wall!!
Rude.

Also I’ll try the poster tube idea next time I take them out!

Oh dear! Mounting like I’ve never seen before! They are taking turns mounting each other!!!! But mostly S’more is mounting Doodle. This isn’t aggression is it? I will mention there is lots of squeaking as well. Hopefully they are just in heat?

If they're taking turns to mount each other I think it's more likely that they're both in heat. With aggression you would generally see just one gerbil persistently chasing and mounting the other. Squeaking can be normal when they're like this. They don't exactly like being mounted and they will protest. You can try distracting them with lots of cardboard, paper and hay to shred up.
